Design Technology including Food Technology
Design technology and food technology are taught as individual subjects each term. Our ‘Units of Work’ in both subjects have been carefully crafted by expert teachers across our School Partnership. In food technology, pupils learn about where food comes from, and how ingredients are grown, reared, caught and processed. They are taught the principles of a healthy and varied diet and use this knowledge to prepare and cook a variety of predominantly savoury dishes, which are then tasted and evaluated. In design and technology lessons, the children are taught to design functional, appealing products for themselves and others. They develop their ideas through talking, drawing templates, and where appropriate, computing. They are encouraged to evaluate their products and develop their technical knowledge, exploring how their product can be improved, e.g. made stronger or more stable.
